Calabrese Monclano F1 Seeds

Calabrese 'Monclano' F1 produces tight domed heads on clear smooth stems and will produce plenty of side shoots after the central head is harvested. Monclano has been selected for super flavour, great yields and resistance to the dreaded clubroot and mildew. Sow several times through spring for successional harvests from August through to November.

Growing Tip:
Try growing calabrese with Nasturtiums to draw cabbage white butterflies away from your crop, and Mint to help deter flea beetles.

Seed Quantity: Approx 25 seeds per pack.
Site:
Full sun, fertile soil, sheltered site. Likes a soil with high pH so add lime to soil before planting if it is low pH (acid). Prepare the soil in autumn. Dig over, remove any stones, add some well-rotted organic matter and firm.
When to Sow:
April to June
How to Sow:
Indoors; For early production sow indoors in March-June, plant out from April with fleece protection.
For direct sowing sow Apr-Jun. Sow indoors thinly into modules. Germination takes 7-12 days. Ideal temp. 10-15C. When seedlings reach 8cm they are ready to plant out. Water the day before moving and keep watered until established. Outdoor transplanting should be 25mm deep in a drill with 30cm spacing. Direct sow 12mm deep in rows 15cm apart. Keep watered. Once germinated thin to 30cm.
Care:
Protect young plants from bird attack. Water well in dry weather, apply a mulch to conserve moisture. Feed with a liquid feed occasionally. Watch for pests and treat accordingly.
Harvest: July to September
