Cucumber Burpless Tasty Green F1 Seeds
Mmmm, not sure about the name but it is reputed to have 'no repeats.' Cucumber Burpless Tasty Green is a real winner in other ways it is an excellent variety to grow outdoors and is easy to grow.
It has a crisp outer skin with a sweet juicy centre that crops early and over a long period. This outdoor cucumber shouldn't be grown near any other variety of cucumber as they may cross-pollinate and this will lead to bitter-tasting fruit.
Cucumber Burpless Tasty Green F1 Vegetable Seed Information
| Seed Quantity: | Approx 15 seeds per pack. |
| Site: |
Sunny, sheltered site.
|
| When to Sow: |
March - May in a greenhouse.
|
| How to Sow: | Sow seeds 1cm deep in individual 8-9cm pots at a temperature of at least 21C. They should germinate within 7-10 days. Pot on into 25cm pots as soon as the first leaves have opened fully. Gradually 'harden off' plants before finally planting out for 3-4 days in late May. The plants should be spaced at 50cm apart and a hole dug that is 30cm deep and wide and back-filled with well-rotted manure & a mix of soil. The spot should be topped off with a mound of the surplus soil and the cucumber planted into the top. The mound allows water to drain away from the stem thus preventing stem rot. Another sowing can be made in May to prolong the harvesting season. |
| Care: |
They like a lot of water so keep well-watered especially in dry weather. The plants will require tieing into a support so just use canes tied in teepee arrangement to a height of 1.5m. When the cucumber reaches the top, pinch out the tip to encourage fruiting.
|
| Harvest: | July to October. Fruit are at their best when 20-25cm long. |
